Fast, Accurate Blood Lactate
in the Palm of Your Hand
Measurement
of blood lactate as an indirect indicator of tissue
perfusion and systemic oxygenation has been used in
human emergency medicine for over 30 years. A number
of studies appearing in the veterinary literature
during last few years have documented the clinical
usefulness of blood lactate testing in the treatment
of shock, sepsis, GDV and a variety of other life
threatening conditions. Obtaining this critical information
where and when it’s needed has been problematic for
the typical veterinarian, until now! More

Unopettes®?
No Problem!
Long
a staple of avian practices worldwide, BD’s Unopette®
5877 (Eosinophil) has been discontinued leaving practitioners
with no practical means for performing total WBC in
birds. One route that some practitioners have taken
is to produce their own phloxine stain in-house even
though it requires a significant investment in pipettes,
glassware, time, and chemicals. You can avoid the
trouble and mess with our new prefilled Avian Leukopet™
that utilizes the same 0.1% phloxine stain, dilutions,
and formulas as the original Unopette®.

Activated Clotting Time (ACT) Tube
Replacement
Bleeding disorders occur
commonly in small animals and every practice should
have the necessary tools to differentiate platelet-related
problems from those caused by deficiency or interference
with clotting factors. The Activated Clotting Time
is an easy to perform test that has long been
a staple for evaluating secondary hemostasis. With
its minimal equipment requirements, the ACT
has been one of the most affordable screening tests
available, however, with the recent discontinuation
of the ACT Vacutainer, it appeared that veterinarians
would have to invest in expensive equipment to fill
the void. Our new AcTube™ with easy open cap utilizes
the same procedure as BD's original tube. More

Put a New Spin on Fecal Testing
Research
has shown that fecal processing by centrifugation
can yield a 40% to 70% greater parasite recovery than
flotation alone. Now you can economically and efficiently
incorporate this gold standard testing method into
your own laboratory with the new 6 place Powerspin
MX swinging arm centrifuge. The tube holders are vertical
at rest to allow processing with cover slip in place,
and the gentle acceleration and deceleration keeps
the cover slips from flying off while spinning. More

New
Lactate Test for IRMA TRUpoint
Lactate
has been added to the IRMA test menu along with
a new software version that allows practitioners
to input customized reference ranges for up to 7
species. It has been well documented in the literature
that elevations in Lactate are generally associated
with poor tissue perfusion. Having immediate access
to results will allow veterinarians to better manage
shock, sepsis, GDV, and other serious life threatening
conditions. Lactate cartridges come packaged in
boxes of 10 or 25 at a cost per test of 6.20.More |
