Identify Key Mastitis
Pathogens in Just 24 Hours!
Mastitis is among
the most common and costly diseases of dairy cattle. In just 24
hours the new Spectrum MS™ culture system can provide a presumptive identification of
many of the major organisms responsible for this potentially devastating
problem.
The
Spectrum MS™ system consists of a four chambered plate containing two
selective chromogenic agars, VJ (Vogel and Johnson agar), and
non-selective Tryptic Soy Agar with 5% sheep blood. This unique
combination of (4) medias incorporated into a single
culture plate provides the basis for a comprehensive scheme for identifying the
infectious agents.
Spectrum™
chromogenic agars have been specifically formulated to produce
uniquely pigmented colonies when inoculated with those bacteria for
which the product has been validated. Each bacterium can then be
easily differentiated on the basis of color and colony appearance.
Depending upon the organism, color reactions may be either genus or
species-specific. The Spectrum MS™
culture system utilizes both Gram positive and Gram negative
selective chromogenic agars. The VJ (Vogel-Johnson) agar provides a
means for positive identification of Staphylococcus aureus while non
selective blood agar contributes to the diagnostic scheme by helping
to identify hemolytic bacteria.
The following organisms can be
identified using the full color interpretation guide provided free with your
first order: Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus uberis,
Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus
mirabilis, Enterobacter Spp. and yeasts such as Candida albicans.
