Natt and Herrick's Stain
The
method developed by Natt & Herrick allows for direct counting of
both erythrocytes and leukocytes in avian and reptilian species.
Since the same dilution is used for both red and white cells, a
total leukocyte and a total erythrocyte count can be obtained
simultaneously from the same charged hemacytometer. The procedure
requires a 1:200 dilution which can be obtained using a traditional
RBC diluting pipet. Alternatively a 1:200 dilution can be obtained
with a traditional pipettor or micro capillaries.
